Marquette Township

Marquette Township is a charter township located in the central northern portion of Marquette County. The area is bounded by Powell Township to the north, Ishpeming Township to the west, Negaunee Township and Sands Township to the south, Lake Superior and the city of Marquette to the east. It should be noted that while the city of Marquette is just to its southeast corner, it is considered separate and autonomous from Marquette Township. The township is mostly woodlands, with the unincorporated communities of Trowbridge Park and Brookton Corners located in the southeast portion towards the city of Marquette.

Housing options in Marquette Township are single-family residences, with a majority of single-story dwellings like cottages, cabins, bungalows and ranch houses, along with two-story residences and custom homes. Most homes are on expansive lots with mature tree cover, and vacant land is also available for new construction. Homes are concentrated in the urbanized developments of Trowbridge Park and around the retail strip of Brookton Corners, with luxury homes in the nearby newer high-end neighborhoods of Huron Woods and Bishop Woods. Fewer homes are in the forested areas along Big Bay Road, while waterfront properties with superb views of Lake Superior can be found on Eagles Nest Road.

Local Attractions

  • Sugarloaf Mountain – Visitors can hike the foot trails and climb steps to observation decks that provide breathtaking views of Lake Superior and the surrounding areas. You can choose between two types of trails – easy or difficult, with both trails taking around 15-20 minutes to complete before you reach the top. There’s also a stone obelisk at the top built by Boy Scout Troop One that commemorates their Scoutmaster Alanson Bartlett King, who died in World War I.
  • Little Presque Isle – A small wooded islet on Lake Superior near the mouth of Harlow Creek, it can be accessed via footpaths depending on the lake level through one of the loveliest and remote beaches in the area, where the sand has a powdery sugar consistency.
  • Brookton Corners – An emerging commercial and retail strip centered along the US-41 / M-28 roadways, with numerous shopping centers and dining establishments, including the Westwood Mall, Target, Wal-Mart, Menard’s, Lowe’s, Best Buy, and more.
