The township is bounded by Powell Township to the north, Tilden Township and the city of Ishpeming to the south, Champion Township and Ely Township to the west, and Marquette Township and Negaunee Township to the east. The unincorporated communities of West Ishpeming and North Lake are both located in Ishpeming Township, and while the city of Ishpeming is just on its southeastern side, it is considered separate and autonomous from the township.

- Ishpeming Township Recreation Area – This small park in the central portion of West Ishpeming is adjacent to the Ishpeming Township Fire Department. The park offers two basketball courts, tennis courts, and baseball diamonds, as well as playground facilities for kids. The park is also a good spot for bird watching around the area.
