Local Attractions

  • Big Bay Point Light – This iconic landmark is a lighthouse located at the northeastern tip of Big Bay. Built in 1896, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1959 film “Anatomy of a Murder,” which was based on real-life events in Big Bay, was filmed in the lighthouse, which currently operates as a Bed & Breakfast.
  • Thunder Bay Inn – Built in 1911 and converted into an inn by Henry Ford in the 1940’s, this historic hotel that was restored to its original state was also used as the setting for the classic courtroom drama, “Anatomy of a Murder.”
  • Yellow Dog River – Part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, the Yellow Dog River’s mouth is at Lake Independence. It winds its way through the Yellow Dog Plains, with many gorgeous waterfalls along its path as it drops through numerous outcrops and cascades.
  • Bay Cliff Health Camp – Formerly a dairy farm, this wellness camp and retreat venue offers year-round programs and events that promote wellness for children and adults with physical disabilities.
